Among the Noises of the Room is a multimedia electroacoustic work fixed media, live electronics, and piano, in conjunction with film. Continuing an exploration of compositional style I have found much inspiration in, this piece utilizes manipulated field recordings in pair with live instruments and purely electronic sounds.

While writing this piece, I was interested in the role solitude plays in creating, or altering, one’s sense of self. Particularly I was interested in forced isolation, such as in the cases of solitary confinement prisoners; as they have lived a life amongst others and now have been sentenced to isolation. Complete isolation must drastically change a person; how they perceive themselves, their landscape, and the sounds that surround them. Prisoners have described their life in terms of routine, anxiety, and intense seclusion; I was intent on exploring these emotions in this piece.

In an introspective manner, I was interested in my own relationship with isolation; how my perception of self changes in relation to the spaces I inhabit.
